Experience the traditional practice of Ashtanga Yoga in Collingswood, NJ as taught by Manju Jois and his father Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.

Every student begins by learning the Ashtanga Primary Series, which is called Yoga Chikitsa or yoga therapy. The beginning sequence is designed to restore the body and mind to a natural state of health and an internal sense of wellbeing. The therapeutic effects of the practice are often experienced, in some small way, by the end of the first class.

Beginners are often unsure whether Mysore classes are right for them. They are concerned that they will not be able to remember sequence or will need to memorize the sequence before they start. This is not the case. Learning in a Mysore style class is the most traditional and safest way to learn Ashtanga yoga. Mysore style classes provide the beginning student with the opportunity to learn at their own pace and ensures there is appropriate amount of individual attention.
In the Mysore Style Class, students are taught individually in a group setting. Beginners are introduced to the Primary series, a set sequence of poses, little by little, and are encouraged to remember the sequence as they progress. The consistency of the sequence allows students to focus on the sound and rhythm of the breath rather than on the voice of a teacher, allowing the practice to evolve into a moving meditation. As students practice and advance through the Ashtanga sequence at a pace that matches their individual needs and abilities, they receive individual instruction, hands on adjustments, and personal attention that is unique to the Ashtanga Mysore class setting.
